A new chapter in Iraqi aviation education has officially begun. Today, Intercontinental Aviation Academy (FlyIAA) held its first induction day in Iraq, welcoming 16 students registered through the American University of Iraq, Baghdad (AUIB) and its EASA Internationally recognized license track, marking the successful launch of a partnership
designed to connect Iraq's next generation of pilots with global aviation careers.
A New Era for Aviation Education in Iraq
The induction day represents the on-the-ground beginning of a strategic partnership between FlyIAA and AUIB, creating a unique and structured pathway for Iraqi students aspiring to become internationally qualified pilots. Through the FlyIAA Pilot Pathway Program at AUIB, students can now combine university education with professional pilot training built to meet international aviation standards — all without leaving Iraq to begin their journey.
With 16 students already registered and officially inducted, the program has moved from concept to reality, giving Baghdad-based students direct access to a training route that was previously out of reach for many aspiring aviators in the region.
A Milestone Moment for the First Cohort
Adding to the significance of the induction, Dr. Bradley J. Cook, President of AUIB, alongside Mr. Zeyad Chabaan, CEO of CEID - Center of Excellence for Innovation and Development, presented the student pilot stripes to the first batch of FlyIAA students at the university, marking a memorable moment as they formally began their journey toward professional aviation careers.
The first cohort has already begun looking ahead to the next stage of their training, with students selecting more than one European training base within FlyIAA's international network to continue their flight education. This early commitment to international training reflects the global nature of the pathway and gives students the opportunity to experience
different aviation environments as they progress toward their professional qualifications.
From University Education to Global Aviation Careers
The FlyIAA Pilot Pathway Program gives students a clear, structured journey. It begins at AUIB, where students build a strong academic foundation while preparing for careers as aviation professionals. From there, students continue their theoretical and practical flight training through FlyIAA's international network of aviation academies and flight training bases across Europe.
This integrated pathway allows students to:
- Gain hands-on flight experience with FlyIAA's European training network
- Complete professional flight training requirements alongside university studies
- Work toward an internationally recognized EASA aviation license
- Transition smoothly from academic life to a full-time aviation career

Connecting Students With Their University Journey
Following the induction day on Thursday, September 17, AUIB continued its student engagement activities with its AUIB Open House on Saturday, September 19.
The Open House brought together representatives from all of AUIB's colleges and faculties to support students who had already graduated from high school as they explored their academic options and selected the majors that best aligned with their interests and future ambitions.
FlyIAA also participated in the AUIB Open House alongside the Center of Excellence for Innovation and Development, CEID, and AUIB, giving prospective students and families the opportunity to learn more about the FlyIAA Pilot Pathway and how professional aviation training can complement their university education. The presence of FlyIAA at
the event further strengthened the connection between academic study at AUIB and the international aviation training opportunities available through the partnership.

The successful induction of Iraq's first FlyIAA cohort is more than a single event — it is a milestone in the academy's broader mission to expand access to world-class aviation education and connect talented students across the region with global opportunities in the aviation industry.
